Police in a statement released Friday afternoon said security agencies have commenced the hunt for a suspected serial attacker suspected to be on a killing spree in Wabigalo Village, Wabinyonyi Sub Country, in Nakasongola district.
The unnamed attacker's victims according to police include two male juveniles, an adult female and an elderly man whose heads were all chopped off during the murders described by police as grisly.
The police statement signed by Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, said the murder began on the 5th, December 2019, 2 pm when the attacker attacked and chopped off the head of ten-year Mesach Mawanda who was following his mother to a charcoal burning site in Wabigalo.
"At around 2:50 pm while at the scene, the police received information about the second incident of murder by hacking, of Sekanza Amos, a seven-year-old male juvenile, which occurred at Kyalubambula village. The victim who was in the company of his mother was grabbed by the attacker, who chopped off his head with a panga. The terrified mother fled during the attack,"
Senkaza's mother later told police that the attack is a male adult in mid-twenties, dark-skinned, medium size and height, with a haircut, and was putting on a sleeveless t-shirt with a design in the centre and a black trouser.
Barely an hour later, police at around 3:02 pm received information about another murder by hacking at Wabigalo village. The victim this time was 30-year-old Judith Adur. She was attacked from the back, police said while carrying firewood, heading to Wabigalo trading centre.
At 3:15, police again received information that murder by the hacking of Rosio Matovu, a 93-year-old male had occurred at the victim’s home. His head had been chopped off.
"We do strongly condemn the brutal and senseless act of the killing of innocent citizens, Enanga said in the statement. The bodies, he said, were transferred to Nakasongola Health Centre IV for further post-mortem and burial arrangements.
Incidentally, police shot and killed a one Mutegesi Calvin, 29, after he was caught by stray bullets during the operation. He succumbed to injuries sustained while being rushed to Nakasongola Military Hospital. Police regret the loss.
